I Like Scary Movies Experience

When I was a kid, I was afraid of everything. And I mean EVERYTHING! I once saw an episode of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" that left me afraid to go the bathroom alone for WEEKS. I once had a babysitter who insisted on watching "Tales from the Crypt" in front of my brother and I and I was CONVINCED the skeleton host was going to pop out from our attic and kidnap me. I don't think she was invited back to babysit.
Anyway, cut to high school, where at a party, the move "The Ring" came on. This was my first horror experience since the babysitter debacle. I was OBSESSED! The thrills! The chills! I was hooked! Years later, I am still obsessed with anything scary. Movies, theater, immersive theater - you name it, I've done it and I want more.
So when I heard that the I Like Scary Movies Experience was coming back, I knew I had to go! I had seen photos of its first run on my friends' timelines and heard amazing things about the quality of the sets. Let me tell you, after experiencing it first-hand, I can confirm!
Not only are the sets incredibly well-thought out, with every detail accounted for, but the employees and creators are some of the kindest, most creative folks around. In each room you enter, you will encounter an employee standing by, who offers photo suggestions and even offers to take them for you!
In one such room, we were fortunate enough to meet the creators, Max and his wife, Robyn. These two are passionate about scary movies and it shows! Each scenario has been expertly designed to help you get the best photo you can with whatever you're working with (my shots were all taken on an iPhone 8+). But in one particular room, my older phone wasn't cutting the mustard in the low-lighting, so Robyn kindly offered to take it for me with her phone and send it to me. Apple should pay her, because man, I am SOLD on a new iPhone.
Robyn walked with us through more of the rooms, and in each one she offered a small detail about creating the set, including where the blood was painted on the back of the hedges with a turkey baster, or where all of the toys were collected from their neighbors. These tidbits about the little details showed so much about the heart and soul of their creation.
Ever since I started seeing photos of I Like Scary Movies online earlier this year, I was so thrilled to finally get an answer to a question that jumped out at me looking at one of the vignettes inspired by "It" - why is the red balloon broken? Robyn explained to me that it's mind-pop. It's reminiscent of that scene at the end of the first movie, down in the sewers, I won't give any more away and I'm certainly not explaining it as beautifully as she did, so if you go, be sure to ask!
All in all, I had such a wonderful time interacting with my favorite horror films and becoming part of the story. Huge thanks to I Like Scary Movies for having me and welcome back!
