A Very Rainy Dapper Day

Picture it- I am living and working in Florida at Disney World in entertainment. I've driven about 20 miles to my nearest thrift store and am so far disappointed. But then I find it. IT. The most beautiful dress I had ever seen in a thrift store up to this day and FOR SURE the most beautiful thing I've EVER seen in an Orlando thrift store. I'm walking through the thrift store, dress in hand. I'm in love. The dress fits me PERFECTLY and it's so pretty and I want it SO BAD, but I'm not sure if the tag says "70" or "7.00"- I am sweating bullets. I'm angry at this point. How dare this dress that might be $70 fit me so well when I can't afford it. How DARE it be so flawless and beautiful! How DARE IT POSSIBLY BE $70! I did another round of the store, hoping to decode the handwriting on the tag based on other tags "ok, that's a 1, that's a 2, that's a three. BUT HOW MANY ZEROS IS THAT?!" I couldn't be sure. I wasted enough time walking around praying this dress, this perfect, perfect dress would be $7.
I approach the cashier, prepared to be embarrassed and heartbroken. She begins to ring me up- the mug $1, the tiny vintage clutch $4, the dress.....how much was the dress. She gives me a final total "$13.75 please" I am DANCING with joy as hand her my debit card to complete this transaction! HIP HIP HOORAY! The dress and I walk off to my car and live happily ever after. Well....sort of.
It would be almost a year until I got to wear that dress. Spring Dapper Day 2015. It was a wet one. A VERY wet one. I drove home to California from Florida with it in my trunk. It felt so fitting to wear a dress from Florida to a California Dapper Day. I ordered a head chain from amazon, made a hand chain out of a necklace from the thrift store (GUYS invest in a pair of jewelry pliers! You can make things, fix things, they're brilliant), and found a pair of gold shoes at the thrift store (RIP gold shoes that FELL APART in the rain).
Adam's look was a little more gathered. His hat, hankie, and brooch, were from amazon (those magic carpet mouse pads, guy, SO CUTE!), while his shirt was from the thrift store. He already had the pants and vest, as you saw earlier.
Honestly, I just felt so pretty this Dapper Day. It's one of my favorite looks and it's still one of my favorite dresses.
